Emergency bin store deep clean in Rickmansworth

The job

The customer got in touch first thing in the morning with an emergency at a care home in Rickmansworth. Bins had been left outside and the bin store had become infested with flies and maggots, along with the remains they left behind. The smell coming from the area was bad enough that it needed dealing with the same day rather than being booked in for later in the week. The whole bin store, along with every bin in it, needed a proper deep clean rather than a quick rinse, so that the grime and the residue left by the infestation were fully removed.

What we did

We recommended a full chemical clean of the bin store, as that was the only way to be confident the smell and the residue would be removed rather than covered up. We attended site in the early afternoon and worked through the whole area. Every bin was emptied out, chemically cleaned inside and out and rinsed down, and the bin store itself was given the same treatment across the floor and the surfaces. Once everything had been cleaned and rinsed, the bins were put back in place so the store was ready to use again straight away.

Challenges

The main challenge was the smell. An infestation of this kind leaves a strong odour that lingers in the space, and it makes for unpleasant work until the chemical clean and the rinse have taken effect.

The result

The bin store came out brighter and cleaner, with clean bins and clean surfaces throughout, and none of the smell that had been the reason for the call. The whole job was completed in around two and a half hours. The call came in at 8am, we were on site by 1.30pm and the work was finished by 3.30pm, which meant the care home had a usable and hygienic bin store back the same day.
